Federal Reserve Bank Chairman Ben Bernanke supports it. During a Congressional hearing, he was asked by Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz what would be the best way for people to spend any extra money they received through the economic stimulus package. She asked if people should use to pay down their credit cards. Bernanke said that would have a "negative" influence and said the best way to use the money was to spend it on domestically produced products. If Greenspan would have said this in the 1990s, there would probably be no need for an economic stimulus today and the USA would have been able to help other nations duplicate the USA success. There would have been no reason for the editorial cartoon above.
